[nVidia] How to mine a cryptocurrency ?

Warning
Bitcoin, altcoins and mining pools are still under devleopment. UniMining tries to be up-to-date but a bug can always happen: thank you to report any problem encountered. Mining crypto-currencies allow to participate in development of Bitcoin, altcoins and crypto-currencies in general.

1. Hardware
In order to mine profitably (or at least not loosing on electricity bills), a recent graphic card is necessary: 280x, 380, Fury, GTX 750 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, RX 470, RX480, RX570, RX 580 or other high-end model. It is better to have 4 GB of memory on the GPU. If you desire to mine for pleasure, it is possible to mine with CPU and GPU but is it hard (nearly speaculative) to mine profitably with a CPU. The definition of profitability depends on the price you pay for electricity.

Specific equipments (ASIC, FPGA) exist for some algoithms of crypto-currencies : scrypt, x11, x13, sha256 etc. GPU miners can still mine these crypto-currencies but it is 100 times less efficient than ASIC. We advice to GPU miners to focus on ASIC-resilient algorithms such as c11, nist5 et neoscrypt.

The website whattomine allows to know which coin is best to mine according to the graphic card used.

2. Wallets

You should download that you want to mine. You can download the compiled version of the wallet (binary) according to your operating system or download the wallet source sode and compile it. Some crypto-currencies offers an online wallet. There is a last crappy quick & dirty method that we don't recommend: create a wallet address on an exchange but some exchange diagree and may lost some coins.

3. Miner program
Th choice of the miner depends on the hardware, especially the coonstructor (AMD ou nVidia).

The list of miner and configurations here below will be updated:
nVidia
We suggest to use ccminer 2.2.2 with nVidia drivers 384.xx or more recent:
https://github.com/tpruvot/ccminer/releases

Remark: some anti-virus and anti-malware may detect the miner as a virus. It is due to the fact that miners were integrated in malwares and virusses so some anti-virus detect the miner as a potentially dangerous component. We use these binaries since years: we've never encounter problems because we avoid to download any binaries and always use the offial binary release on bitcointalk or github.

Other forks of ccminer offer sometimes more performances with some mining equipments, ex: ccminer alexis may offer good results with GTX 1080/GTX1080Ti.

4. Launch file (*.bat file on windows)
You should create a launch file (batch file, *.bat on windows) that will launch ccminer with parameters that define the mining pool URL and pol, miner's wallet address, the algorithm, the coin mined c=COIN and other options (using the -p "password" parameter used to pass options).

On Windows, create a new file with notepad or notepad++, write (copy/paste) one of the example here below and adapt it for your wallet (and eventually options). Save the file with .bat extension (be careful to avoid to save it with .bat.txt extension : selection the adequate filetype or "All files").

An explanation about "password" options is available below the examples of *.bat files:

Explanation of main parameters of ccminer (windows 64 bits version in my case):
-a neoscrypt : set the algorithm
-o stratum+tcp://pool.unimining.net:4233 : set the mining pool URL and stratum port (4233 for neoscrypt algo)
-u VErHiL14qdKp95xPe9JP6wgGRssQXzuLjH : wallet address used as username. Please remove this example address and write your own address created at step 2
-p c=VIVO : optional (password) parameters. -p is used to give the password related to the username. As mining is anonymous, the password is used to pass optional arguments. c=VIVO is used to force YiiMP to mine Vivo (VIVO is the symbol defined on the pool for Vivo) : YiiMP should detect the crypto-currency mined according to the wallet address but as coins are forks of other coins (and some don't adapt address' code), it doesn't always work as expected. So we recommand to always set the coin with at least the optional parameter c (ex: c=VIVO).. stats is used to perform a benchmark of your GPU (first GPU on multi-GPU) on the 50st share. it is possible to specify the initial difficulty with d parameter (useful to mine scrypt algo with a GPU). To add several parameter, seperate them by commas, e.g. -p c=VIVO,stats to set the coin as Vivo and perform benchmark

Launch the *.bat file (double click) and check that the miner connects to the stratum and that shares are accepted. 5 to 6 minutes after the first share accepted, have a look at the wallet page.

5. Immature/Confirmed block and payments

On the wallet page, you can see different amounts (paid, immature balance and so on). When a block is found by the pool, its stauts is "New" (purple) during a few seconds. If it is accepted by the blockchain, the status becomes Immature with a number of confirmations between parenthesis.

When the number of confirmations of an Immature block reachs a number that depends of the coin, the block status becomes "Confirmed". At this moment, the pools have received the coins. After this, on the next payments run (that run each hour on our pool), all balances above 0.001 will be paid. From an IT point of view, this payment process takes about 15 minutes so numbers on the wallet page (and in the database) evole: it seems that coins disappears from Unpaid balance...then they are paid ! Then we should wait that this payment is confirmed and then coins should arrive on your personal wallet.

As a hobby venture, yes, cryptocoin mining can generate a small income of perhaps a dollar or two per day. In particular, the digital currencies mentioned above are very accessible for regular people to mine, and a person can recoup $1000 in hardware costs in about 18-24 months. Mining cryptocoins is an arms race that rewards early adopters. You can check CryptoNewsTrends for more latest news and updates about Cryptocurrency. You might have heard of Bitcoin, the first decentralized cryptocurrency that was released in early 2009. Similar digital currencies have crept into the worldwide market since then, including a spin-off from Bitcoin called Bitcoin Cash. You can get in on the cryptocurrency rush if you take the time to learn the basics properly. I hope it would be helpful for you. :P
